Live world news for the classroom
GlobeNow.tv is a free website that puts live news, live TV and webcams from around the world on a 3D globe. Teachers can use it to show a class what is happening in another country right now. It needs no account and no sign-up, so students do not have to give an email address, and it runs in the browser, including on school Chromebooks.
I'm the developer of GlobeNow.tv. This page collects what is useful in a lesson; the videos come from the broadcasters' own YouTube channels.
Lesson ideas
Same story, different countries
Pick a big international story. Put two or three news channels from different countries side by side and ask students what each one leads with, which words it uses and who it interviews.
Current events, media literacy · 20–30 min
Where is this happening?
Open the 3D globe in News mode. Each dot is a news video pinned to the place it was filmed. Students spin the globe, pick a dot, watch for a minute and then find the place on a map and explain why it is in the news.
Geography · 15 min warm-up
What time is it there?
Before watching a channel, students work out the local time and whether it is day or night there. The live picture (a morning show, a night-time skyline) lets them check their answer straight away.
Time zones, geography · 10 min
Listen in the target language
Show a few minutes of a news channel in the language your class is learning. Students note the headlines they understand, then compare notes. The same stories repeat through the day, which helps.
World languages · 10–15 min
News channels from 12 countries that play anywhere
One news channel per country, most watched first. Each one had no country restrictions in our latest check (1 November 2026), so it should play in your classroom wherever you are.

Before you show it in class
- Preview first. Live news is unedited. Open the channel a few minutes before the lesson and keep the volume low when you start.
- YouTube must be allowed. The streams are YouTube videos, so your school's YouTube settings and filters apply.
- Ads. GlobeNow.tv shows no ads of its own. Some broadcasters' streams carry their own ad breaks.
- Data. The site does not ask students for any personal details. See the privacy policy.
Put it on a class site
Every city and country page has an embed widget that updates on its own. In Google Sites choose Insert → Embed and paste a link; in WordPress or Notion paste it on its own line.

Questions
Is GlobeNow.tv free for schools?
Yes. It is free, needs no account and has no sign-up, so students do not have to give an email address. It runs in any modern browser, including school Chromebooks.
Is the content suitable for students?
The channels are broadcasters' own news streams, but they are live and unedited, so a breaking story can include distressing pictures. Preview a channel before showing it and keep the volume low when you start. Videos play through YouTube, so your school's YouTube settings (such as Restricted Mode) still apply.
Will it work if YouTube is blocked at my school?
No. The videos are YouTube streams. If your network blocks YouTube, ask your IT team to allow it for teachers, or show the stream from a teacher account that is allowed.
Can I put a live news widget in Google Classroom, Google Sites or a class blog?
Yes. Every city and country page has an embed widget. In Google Sites use Insert → Embed and paste a link such as https://globenow.tv/embed/place/tokyo. In Google Classroom post the page link, because Classroom does not embed iframes.
How many countries are covered?
The live TV directory covers 64 countries and territories. News videos on the globe come from many more places, because they are pinned to where each story happened.
