Live TV channels and webcams in Google Earth

Two free KML files put live video on Google Earth: 647 live TV channels from 64 countries at their broadcast location (501 of them play worldwide), and 619 public YouTube webcams in 51 countries and territories that were live today. Each placemark links to the official stream. No account or email is needed.

I'm the developer of GlobeNow.tv, which builds these files from the same data as its 3D globe.

Open them in Google Earth

  1. Google Earth Pro (desktop): download a file, then choose File › Open and pick it. The placemarks appear under Temporary Places; drag the folder to My Places to keep it.
  2. Google Earth on the web: open earth.google.com, go to Projects › New project › Import KML file from computer, and choose the file.
  3. Google My Maps: create a map, click Import under the first layer, and upload the file. My Maps keeps the folders as one layer, so the TV file may be easier to read than the webcam file.
  4. QGIS or ArcGIS: add the file as a vector layer; the description field holds the links.

If you only want to watch, you do not need Google Earth at all: the GlobeNow.tv globe shows the same channels and webcams and plays them in the page.

Questions

Does Google Earth have live webcams or live TV?

Google Earth has no live video layer of its own; the webcam layer in Google Earth Pro's gallery showed mostly still images. These two free KML files add 619 public YouTube webcams that were live today and 647 live TV channels as placemarks, each with a link to watch.

Is the video live inside Google Earth?

No. Google Earth shows the placemark and a short description; clicking the link opens the official YouTube stream or the GlobeNow.tv page in your browser. Nothing is re-hosted.

How often are the files updated?

They are generated on request from the same data as the website. TV channels change rarely and their worldwide-or-blocked status is checked daily; webcams go on and off air, so download the webcam file again for a current list.

Do I need an account or an email address?

No. Both files are free direct downloads with no sign-up and no email.

Can I use the files in other map tools?

Yes. KML is an open format, so the files also open in Google My Maps, QGIS, ArcGIS and most GIS tools. Please keep the links to the original YouTube streams.
